Weird!

Did you edit the INI for each different Visual Theme that you wanted to use? Unfortunately one has to do each seperate Theme, which takes a bit longer to set up :[ I am looking into building something that would automate this process. Something like the Enigma Installer by JSMorley would be really nice, I just need some time to do some homework!

Hope this is the issue!?

Can't seem to get it into rainthemes.
I dropped the skin stuff in skins in mydocs and themes and plugins in their respective folders in my main rainmeter directory.
Even uninstalled, got the newest DL of rainmeter and default installed it... still no joy.

Helps?

XP with all the updates.
I just tried another reboot etc and still nothing.
I can load the skin elements through ye-olde enigma right-click menu, but I end up with everything crushed in the upper left hand corner of the screen. So... progress.
Rainthemes still nothing though.

If anyone else who downloaded the first upload also has this problem, either re-download nad replace the files or edit the Alphabar Theme files in a text editor.

Simply remove the line: SkinPath=C:\My Documents\Rainmeter\Skins\ or change it to match your directory structure :]

More feedback (I hope you like these things)
System - Black.ini
[ProcessesText]
You left a C:\Windows instead of a %windir% which totally will come up like one time because some freak out there will have windows installed somewhere odd.

Ah, cool. Yeah, I do like these things, I want it to work well for everyone :] Tell me anything you find!!

The freak out there is me too! I have Windows on an E: drive and various other folders in weird places! I have to go through and attempt to 'normalise' things before I share them :]

Another handful of %windir% missing in the AlphaBar - Black.ini
I found the E:\Windows on the task manager which might be why that wasn't working for me.

Looks like a find/replace on C:\Windows X:\Windows and E:\Windows across all of the .ini files may be in order.

Still can't get the gmail or twitter feeds to work. *Bangs head*

No Gmail or Twitter? Weird . . . works okay on these PCs. Those skins are fairly similar, especialy in the way that the usernames/passwords are linked. Maybe it's something to do with that? You're not putting any characters around your username or passwords?

The RSS skin is also similar, is that feed working for you?

There seems to be another one: alphabar-black.ini

There are many hard coded assignments to the windows directories instead of %windir%

I also saw a E:\Windows, and an X:\Windows

those might become problems.

sorry to point out the problems, but i'm just helping.

Try going into the Themes > Alphabar (Theme) folder and opening the Rainmeter.thm file in a text editor. In the [Rainmeter] section at the top add this line:

SkinPath=C:\My Documents\Rainmeter\Skins\

Obviously, alter this to point to your Rainmeter Skin folder. Then, exit Rainmeter and try loading the theme from Rainthemes . . . fingers crossed.

Another solution is to load the skins from the right-click context menu as you have, and drag the skins to their desired position. They have been set up to be pretty easy to drag :] If dragging the skin undesirably executes a link, use the outer edge (the outer 15 pixels of a skin are always reserved for dragging :)

You're meant to be able to move them around anyway, the theme is just easier :] Because of the tabbed operation, you only have to place the Alphabar and the 3 drop-down menus . . .

Hope this helps!

But we will solve your theme issue.

Yep that worked.
You can also leave the SkinPath= completely out of the .thm files and it'll default to wherever the Rainmeter.ini file has it pointed (which is what I did in the end).

Ok....
So I figured out that Rainthemes wants me to have my themes in C:\Documents and Settings\LexAevum\Appication Data\Rainmeter

So I threw it in there and now I have them listen in rainthemes. But when I try to load it I get "No skins in c:\My Documents\Rainmeter\Skins" which makes sense because I'm on XP and there is no such directory, it's actually in "c:\Documents and Settings\LexAevum\My Documents\Rainmeter\Skins\"

So I changed skinpath in my rainmeter.ini and recycled. Tried rainthemes again, load... and it changed the skinpath back! ARGH.

Aaaaannnnd....
So I gave it the c:\my documents\rainmeter\skins directory it wanted (just made one and copied everything in there) and now it comes up.

Ah, I see . . so I must have accidentally left the link to my directory structure in the Theme files . . woops!

Thanks for pointing this out, I'll make a quick change and re-upload to DeviantArt!

Glad it's working for you!!

Only Trouble on windows 7 x64, it crashes rainmeter if not started as administrator. Any way to avoid that?

Thanks for all

Hmmm . . . that's odd :[ Is that for any particular skin, or all of them?

If I can't work it out I'll hurl it over to the Rainmeter Forums, as I don't have a Win7 system to test on :]

Version 1.1 will be like a little 'Expansion Pack' :]

Enjoy!

hey nice job!
a problem i am having is that when i open a meter, for example, the tasks, it opens up at the top left corner so it's position is behind the "alpha bar". and i can't drag it because when i click it, it opens up notepad. this is the same for everything else. btw, how did you get the alpha bar to fit any screen resolution?

Ah!

The intended use in the instructions was to open the Theme files from Rainthemes, these also place the skins in an optimum initial position. The Themes also make use of the new Rainmeter variables in 1.0 to place the Skins automatically!

However, being the advanced Rainmeter user that you are, I can see why you would open the Skin directly :]

The Skins will have at least a 15 pixel "buffer" all around the edge that you can grab to drag them around! The alternative is to set the links to execute upon MouseUp instead of MouseDown, but personally I love the quicker response of using MouseDown! But that's probably just because I'm high on caffeine . . .

The variables used are new in Rainmeter but you still have to code things quite differently! Basically, the new variables allow you to orient your Skin and Meter placement from somewhere other than the top-left edge of the display. Soooooo much better :]

That'll work, but now your text will clip before the end of the skin :[

Just drag from the edges :] Or if you prefer, change the MouseDown actions to MouseUp actions. That way you won't execute the link until you release the button!!
